Jury Duty

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to be summoned to Jury Duty. At first I was like GREAT…I don’t have time for this. But, I realized I didn’t have a choice and that I must fulfill my citizen duties.

So, Tuesday October 18th at 8:00 I walked into the City Capital Building for Jury Duty. After instructions, a questionnaire, and a brief video finally at 9:00 the Courts came down to take some of us to the court rooms. Here the judge and attorney’s could select there jurors. I was one of 18 people brought into the court room. They brought us in made us swear and the attorney’s asked us all several questions. Then it was time to strike the Jurors. LOW and BEHOLD…I was picked as one of the six jurors to sit in on this civil case.

For the shortened version-The case was about a lady that was 76 years old and whom fell
in a CVS parking lot on a metal stub (maybe from a broken off Handicapped sign?) an
broke her shoulder. She was suing CVS for her permanent injury. So, both parties brought in witnesses: 2 doctors, family members, and the plaintiff herself. Then the attorney’s both gave their closing remarks. The Defendant stated that the lady should receive between 3, 400-34,000 in wages for the damages she had incurred. The plaintiff said she should receive 425,000 for her injury. Then we were sent to the Jury Room to deliberate. All 6 of us had to agree on the amount we were going to award her. After about 2 hours we reached an agreement…all came into the courtroom and the verdict was read. We awarded her $75,5250.

So, needless to say this was a GREAT learning experience. I learned so much about the court system and all it entails. I have a new appreciation for the courts, judges, and lawyers. What amazing jobs you all have! Anyway….I urge anyone that is summoned to fulfill their duties—For everyone deserves a fair trial by Jury.

Pumpkin Carving Party

Last night we carved pumpkins with our small group from church. It was my first time to carve my very own pumkin...it was messy, but lots of fun!

Prayer Update

PLEASE continue to pray for Ray and his family. Here is an update from Ray's mom about the news they found out today.

We are on a pit stop from Riley. Ray has 60+% of leukemia in his bone marrow and 20+% in his peripheral blood. We are starting on a St. Jude's protocol to try to manage it so that we can go to Florida for a getaway. It is a rotating thing so we can make other decisions based on how he does. There is no promise that this will put him back into remission and the doctors do not foresee a cure. Please respect that we have not told Ray. He does know that his cancer has come back and that we are abiding by his wishes and trying another medication, but we have not told him that this is now terminal. SO if you talk to him please try to keep things on a "normal" level. We have not given up hope and we are asking God for a miracle and if He does not will that, then we are asking for acceptance and guidance.Please continue to pray, pray, pray.

Prayer Request

Please pray for a little boy named Ray. He had luekemia, relapsed, and then had a bone marrow transplant a little over 100 days ago. He was doing really well and then today they found suspicious cells in his blood work. His bone Marrow will be tested tomorrow to see if the luekemia has returned. Please pray for this family as they wait to find out the results. May our prayers be lifted up in unison that this disease has not returned.

Congrats David and Sarah Moore

David and Sarah had a great outside wedding on Oct. 1st. There were many personal touches that made it so wonderful--for instance they washed each others feet during the ceremony...how precious is that!

Do you think you know someone that has a big family? I bet it won't beat this.....David has 11 brothers and sisters and his mother is pregnant with #13. Sarah now has 12 new brothers and sisters! Talk about entering into a huge family!!! I have never seen such a big family.... but I must say it was a blessing to see them all together and witness the love that they all had for each other!
